Increase quota for SCs and STs: Union minister Ramdas Athawale

MYSURU: Union minister of social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale said he is pressurizing to increase reservation for SC and ST communities as more and more castes are being added to these two categories.
Speaking to reporters in the city, he said that based on the recommendations made by the states, new castes have been added to this list. “Increasing reservation proportionate to the population is my demand."
The minister also downplayed the statement made by Shivamogga MLA KS Eshwarappa that reservation should not be extended to those who are economically stronger. “It is his personal opinion. The BJP will not agree with his words. Reservation is provided to uplift socially weaker sections,” Ramdas added.
He also stated that Bharat Jodo Yatra will not help the Congress. “In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will return to power at the center,” he stated.
