Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is in the running to be the next national president of Congress, dropped a big hint on his succession in the state. Gehlot made a stunning statement siding with the “new generation” saying it should get a chance to lead the show.

Gehlot made the statement while speaking to the media in Jaisalmer. He will shortly travel back to Jaipur for a Congress Legislature Party meeting at his (CM) residence in the evening.

Meanwhile, some MLAs of Gehlot camp are reportedly in a meeting called by state minister Shanti Dhariwal. These include State ministers Mahesh Joshi, Shakuntala Rawat and MLAs Danish Abrar, Mahendra Choudhary, Alok Beniwal. As per sources, the Gehlot camp in Rajasthan is meeting to decide the course of action to be taken if Sachin Pilot becomes the next CM.

Gehlot made the statement hours ahead of a key Congress Legislature Party meeting today at 7 pm. Senior party leader Ajay Maken and observer Mallikarjun Kharge will also be in attendance.

The Rajasthan CM’s comment on the “new generation” comes as excitement grows in the Sachin Pilot camp on his expected rise to CM. Ahead of the CLP meeting in Jaipur, posters in support of Pilot were seen in Jodhpur with quotes like 'Naye Yug ki Taiyari' (preparing for a new era).

While the incumbent CM may have hinted towards this, Rajasthan Minister Subhash Garg, a staunch Gehlot supporter, expressed his worries about the change on the same day with a veiled warning that the government may topple if the CM is from the other “camp”.

Garg said, “When the government was in crisis, 102 MLAs stood with Gehlot. Now, if any of the MLAs who went to Manesar is made the CM, then the government may topple. The high command should decide according to the public sentiments.”
