Jaipur: Newborn babies born to mothers who smoke are at risk of heart diseases, experts pointed out at a conference on health diseases, organised by the Cardiological Society of India, Rajasthan Chapter.
At the National Conference ‘Raj CSICON-22’, cardiologists said that tobacco consumption not only increases the risk of cancer but also causes heart diseases. If a pregnant woman continues to smoke tobacco, the chances of her baby developing a congenital heart disorder are much higher. Besides ill-effects of tobacco consumption on the heart, the doctors also took up other issues related to heart health.
PK Hazra, a cardiologist from Kolkata said that now, new generation stents are available, which will dissolve in the vein itself after 2-3 years of implantation. With this, there will be no need to take many medicines.
