The Aam Aadmi Party Saturday alleged a Rs 84 crore scam in the collection of garbage at the Bhalswa landfill site. The BJP-led MCD is responsible for all sanitation-related work, including garbage collection. The main carriageway of Hero Honda chowk Flyover from Jaipur towards Delhi on NH-48 will re-open from tonight at 12 am for regular traffic movement, authorities said on Sunday.
The carriageway was closed for traffic for six days from September 21 to September 26 due to repair work being undertaken by the NHAI.

In a bid to facilitate better last-mile connectivity and transportation services to rural and outer parts of the national capital, the AAP-led Delhi government has planned to procure around 2,300 nine-metre-long mini electric buses, christened “rural feeders”.
According to a senior government official, the buses will be brought out under the FAME-II scheme through Convergence Energy Services Limited. “Delhi has plans to buy 6,300 electric buses for its public transport fleet, of these 2,300 will be low-floor buses, which will run on 172 routes in rural areas, villages and outer parts of the city where the frequency of standard buses is currently limited,” said the official. The University Grants Commission on Sunday wrote to vice chancellors of universities opting for CUET to start the admission process. "You are requested to make necessary preparations for admissions, including website and web portals, so that the PG admission process may be timely started, based on the CUET score," it said. (PTI)
With Phase II of Delhi University’s undergraduate admission process starting Monday, the varsity’s primary word of advice to candidates has been to fill in a “maximum” number of programme-college preferences while registering.
Because of the nature of the registration process this year, this guiding principle is crucial for candidates to ensure the best possible chance of securing a seat at the University, even if it might not be their most coveted choice.
Over the next two weeks, candidates will be expected to select the programmes and in order of preference, list out the programme plus college preferences for which they would like to be considered. Read more
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Sunday alleged that a 12-year-old boy was sexually assaulted in northeast Delhi's Seelampur and issued a notice to the police in connection with the matter.
The DCW said it received a complaint from a woman who said that her son was sexually assaulted. She informed that on September 18 her child was sexually assaulted by four men, the panel said. The woman claimed that the accused had also beaten up her son with bricks and rods.
The child, who informed his parents about the incident on September 22, is in hospital. The panel has sought a copy of the FIR registered into the matter along with the details of the arrested accused and a detailed action taken report by September 28. (PTI)
The successful translocation of Namibian cheetahs to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh was the focus of the 93rd episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said Sunday that a task force has been set up to monitor the progress of the big cats in their new environment, while also seeking suggestions to name the cheetah campaign.
During the monthly radio programme, PM Modi said it will be several months before the cheetahs finally adapt and the task force will make an assessment after which the government will take a call on whether the park can be opened to the public. Read more

The Delhi Police Thursday arrested nine people, including eight Bangladeshi nationals, for allegedly forging passports and other documents to gain Indian citizenship. The police said the accused arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport from Seychelles, South Africa, Nepal and other neighbouring countries Wednesday.
The main accused, Debashish Chakraborty (52), is a resident of Kolkata who runs a nexus by providing Indian passports and forged visa documents to foreign nationals, the police said. Read more
Despite the heavy showers in Delhi over the last three days, the overall rain deficit in the city is still around 22 per cent, according to data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Delhi usually receives 539 mm of rain between June 1 and September 24, as per the data. This year, it received 419.3 mm of rain during this period, a deficit of 22 per cent. In 2021, Delhi received 413 mm of rain in September alone. “The three consecutive days of rain have not managed to wipe out the city’s monsoon rain deficit. The city saw a massive shortfall in June and August, but July received more rain than normal. Now, September has brought more than usual rain, but it has still not managed to make up for the shortfall,” said a senior IMD official. Read more
With the festival season approaching, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police held a meeting with prominent citizens and leaders of various religions in Noida’s Sector 6 on Friday and asked them to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the coming days.

The Ghaziabad police on Saturday night arrested a man following an encounter in the Vijay Nagar area, officers said. The man, whom they identified as Raja Khalid, was wounded in the shootout, along with a policeman.
Routine checks were underway in the jurisdiction of Vijay Nagar station when a two-wheeler with two riders refused to stop for the same, prompting officers to alert personnel nearby, the police said. The two men then travelled in the direction of Richpal Gadhi Puliya, where a police team attempted to stop them. Read more
While taking part in the AAP's protest against the Uttarakhand government, party Ghonda in-charge Divya Chaturvedi said: "The protest was initially supposed to be held outside BJP headquarters, but the police pushed us back and did not allow it. Meanwhile, they erected barricades too. We were peacefully protesting. We are protesting to ensure justice for Ankita and for the safety of Indian women. After college and school students, the Delhi Government has decided to conduct self-defence classes for women teachers in its schools, officials said. The course will be from October 10 to 22 at Thyagaraj Stadium.
According to officials, the teachers will be taught techniques in self-defence, avoidance of conflict and de-escalation during the 10-day course. Each school has been asked to nominate one teacher for the programme. Read more

The Delhi Police have arrested four men for allegedly robbing a chartered accountant of Rs 9 lakh at his office in East Delhi in broad daylight on Tuesday, September 20.
The police identified the accused as Lalit Kumar (24), Pushpak Singh (22), Sachin Thakur (23) and an employee of the chartered accountant, Aman Dubey (24), who allegedly aided the robbery.
The police said that the CA, Narender Kumar, called the Shakarpur station regarding the robbery and they reached the spot. Kumar’s driver Narender Kumar said that his employer had given him a bag of Rs 9 lakh to count on the first floor when two unknown men came in and robbed him at gunpoint, according to the police. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has moved the Supreme Court against the ban on firecrackers in Delhi during Diwali. The court will hear the matter on October 10.
Delhi has put a blanket ban on the sale, purchase and usage of firecrackers during festive seasons of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and others. There is a presumption that other states may also ban it like last year. Due to the decisions, Hindus were targeted on the eve of Deepawali and were arrested. Days after a student of Zakir Husain Delhi College died by suicide, the Delhi University’s proctor has advised college and hostel officials to counsel students on “the importance of human life”.
An advisory addressed to deans, heads of departments, directors, principals, provosts and wardens in the university stated that there is a “recent trend” of students “taking away their lives” because of an inability to handle pressure. Read more
There was no rain in Delhi Sunday morning after three consecutive days of intermittent precipitation, but the weather department has forecast light drizzle during the day.
The minimum temperature in the national capital on Sunday settled at 22.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The relative humidity recorded at 8:30 am is 93 per cent, they said. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibility of very light rain and drizzle during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 29 degrees Celsius. (PTI)
