Pune Municipal Corporation to fix footpaths on stretch along Metro route
Damaged footpath between Garware College and Khanduji Baba Chowk
PUNE: The civic body is chalking out a plan to repair and reconstruct the footpaths from the Garware College Chowk towards Khanduji Baba crossing as the Metro work in the area is in the final stage.
The overhaul is expected to bring relief to pedestrians on Karve Road, who have been forced to face hardships because of the poor condition of the footpath owing to Metro works. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has floated a tender in this regard.
Vivek Kulkarni, a regular walker on the stretch, said the repair of footpaths had been pending for a long time. "The stretch of the footpath near the Metro station is not walkable. We were expecting the work to be complete in a few days, but it has been almost six months. It is good if PMC is repairing and restoring the footpaths."
Sayali Nimhan, a student, said, "The footpaths are uneven. Missing steps at the end poses difficulties to senior citizens. The authorities should eliminate such hurdles."
MahaMetro has been constructing entry and exit points for the stations. It is also in the process of fixing some stretch of the footpaths on both sides of the road.
An official from the civic administration said they were working in coordination with MahaMetro to execute the plan. "We shall repair the existing footpath and introduce changes as per the requirements," the official said.
