
Mumbai Maharashtra News Today Live: The BJP has sent a strong signal to its alliance partner, the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, that it will have a greater say in Vidarbha region of the state. Of the total eleven districts in Vidarbha, the BJP has bagged guardian ministership in eight districts, leaving just three districts for Shinde’s Sena. The decision has raised eyebrows among the leaders of Shinde’s faction. CM Eknath Shinde Saturday finalised list of guardian ministers in 36 districts in the state.
Having gone missing in 2013, 16-year-old Pooja Gaud was finally reunited with her family last month. However, the physical and mental trauma that she suffered during the nine years in which she was allegedly kept captive has meant that the days since her reunion with her family have been no fairy tale. She was allegedly abducted by a couple on January 22, 2013, some distance from a Mumbai school. Her disappearance had led to a massive media campaign to find her. Over the years, she came to be known as Girl No 166 for being the only one, out of a total of 166 missing girls, to not be found by DN Nagar police station’s assistant sub-inspector Rajendra Bhosle’s team between 2008 and 2015.
A total of 8,911 cattle in Maharashtra have recovered from Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) out of the total 24,466 affected, the state government said on Sunday. Commissioner for Animal Husbandry Sachindra Pratap Singh said that the disease has spread in 1,796 villages of 30 districts. “A total of 81.62 lakh vaccines for LSD were made available in the state. Nearly 58.14 lakh cattle have been vaccinated for free. In this, 40.34 lakh is in the 5 km radius of 1,796 villages while the rest 17.80 is out of the radius,” said Singh.
Partsoif seven hutments collapsed into an adjacent nullah in Vile Parle's Indira Nagar. 24 hutments were vacated for safety reasons and residents were shifted to Sanyas Ashram BMC School in the area.

Mumbai Police have received information about at least three city residents allegedly being held captive in Myanmar after they were lured to Thailand with offers of jobs in the Information Technology sector, a senior official said.
After one of them managed to contact his friend here who approached police, the crime branch registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons, the official said on Saturday.

As part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) latest plan to beautify the city within three months, the civic body has initiated a survey to locate the missing links of footpaths in Mumbai.
On September 17, the BMC had announced Mumbai Beautification Plan under which it aims to carry out several improvement projects. The civic body has earmarked a Rs 1,700-crore budget for this project -- equivalent to its annual budget for road repair works.
The city has a 2,000 km road network that falls under civic jurisdiction. Besides arterial roads and flyovers, all roads in the city have footpaths on both sides. But due to lack of maintenance and mismanagement, many footpaths are now damaged with out of place paver blocks and encroachment by hawkers. Read more

IN TWO separate instances in south Mumbai, cash worth Rs 1.50 crores was stolen in the past three days. In the first case, a stationary shop owner in Tardeo filed a complaint at the Pydhonie police about Rs 50 lakh being stolen by one of his employees.
In the second case, an FIR was registered at the VP Road police station based on a complaint given by one Kiran Patel, working at an angadia shop in south Mumbai. As per the complaint, the third floor residence of the complainant in Bhuleshwar was broken into on Saturday afternoon and two persons fled with Rs 1 crore in cash kept in the cupboard. An officer said that they have CCTV footage in which two accused are seen entering the house at around 2.36 pm on Saturday and fleeing within 10 minutes. " We have strong leads in the case and the accused should be arrested soon," said a senior officer.
The taxi and auto unions in the city have decided to call off their proposed strike on September 26 after receiving assurances from the state government of a fare hike starting October 1.
In Mumbai there are 48,000 taxis and two lakh autorickshaws. Currently, the minimum fare for taxis is Rs 25 for 1.5-km while it is Rs 21 for autos. After the increase is implemented, the minimum fare for taxis will go up to Rs 28 and for autos it will be Rs 23. Read more
A photograph of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son, Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde, purportedly sitting in the CM’s chair has sparked a controversy, with sections of the Opposition accusing Shinde’s son of disrespecting his father’s office.

The water works department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commissioned a total station study of the hilly areas of Ghatkopar West and Vikhroli West spread over N and L wards where the water supply is erratic.
The water works department has floated a tender, which will be opened in the end of September and cost Rs 1.70 crore to the BMC. Read more
NCP leader Eknath Khadse on Saturday denied reports that he was planning to return to the BJP fold.
Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Chandrakant Patil, during a public rally in Jalgaon had claimed that Khadse had met Home Minister Amit Shah recently. More than two months after the CBI registered an FIR against former Mumbai Police commissioner Sanjay Pandey, a special CBI court on Saturday granted the agency four-day custody of Pandey in connection with the alleged illegal phone-tapping of National Stock Exchange (NSE) employees by his IT firm.
Pandey was already in judicial custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the investigation against him. Read more
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned about the entry of "vasooli samrats" (extortionists) into the 'mathadi' (headload workers) sector, which was defaming everybody associated with it.
Addressing a rally of headload workers in Navi Mumbai, he said these persons were forcibly collecting money from workers of the sector, adding that the government would soon take action against them through the police.
'Mathadi' or headload workers are an integral part of the sprawling APMC Market in Vashi as well as various other industrial nodes of Navi Mumbai and the rest of Thane district and unrest among them often affects economic activity in the region. (PTI)
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said Metro and other projects stalled in the state in the last two-and-a-half years have been taken up on priority by his government.
"We don't take decisions sitting in Mantralaya (state secretariat), we take decisions on the spot. Our government has removed negativity and brought in positivity in the state. This has brought 'nav chaitanya' (new consciousness) among citizens," Shinde said. He said his government after coming to power in June-end this year had cleared thousands of files.
In the wake of the Vedanta-Foxconn multi-billion semiconductor project going in Gujarat, Shinde said, "What if one industry has gone out of the state, we will get better ones." (PTI)
Come next week, government-run Grant Medical College (GMC), also known as J J hospital, is set to be thrown open to the public as part of BMC’s heritage walk initiative. It is a first-of-its-kind initiative taken to showcase the hospital’s rich history – spanning 177 years – which is as old as the Indian Railways. "The government must come down swiftly and hard on those who indulged in pro-Pak slogans. The fact that someone dared to do so, and is yet roaming free, means this is a major law and order failure in Maharashtra," said Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray yesterday.
The Pune police said that are probing allegations that pro-Pakistan slogans were chanted during the protests held by activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Friday against the nationwide searches on premises linked to the outfit and the arrest of its members by central agencies under terrorism charges.
PFI's Pune Unit President Mohammed Qais Anwar Shaikh said protesters were chanting 'Popular Front Zindabad' and a section of media presented it as 'Pakistan Zindabad'.
Among the series of agitations held by PFI members and supporters across the country, the protest in Pune was held on Friday afternoon in front of the district collectorate. Leaders, workers and supporters of the PFI raised slogans against the raids by central and state investigative agencies.
