THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The second phase vaccination of stray dogs in the city corporation limits will begin on Sunday. Four teams will cover 100 wards as part of the drive till November 1, 2022.
Veterinary doctors and dog catchers will be a part of the team.
The dogs which receive vaccination will be colour-tagged. The corporation had recently held a three-day vaccination drive and licence distribution campaign for pet dogs. As many as 1,490 pet dogs were vaccinated and 1,472 licences were issued by the civic body during the drive.
The vaccination for stray dogs will be held in Ambalathara, Puthenpally and Kamaleswaram wards from 5am. Around 800 dogs were sterilized by the city corporation in 2022. The sterilization rate has been affected mainly by the closure of the facility at Vandithadam.
The corporation has received administrative sanction for setting up a new facility at Vandithadam. It was forced to shut down the facility owing to protest from animal lovers against the mismanagement at the facility.
The corporation now has two trained dog catchers and four new catchers were recently recruited. In addition to the present batch, six more dog catchers will be inducted for the project.
