Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Sunday as they sought unity of opposition parties ahead of 2024 polls. Following the meeting, Lalu Yadav said that Sonia Gandhi will call for a meeting of opposition parties after the Congress presidential poll is over.
The RJD supremo added that Sonia Gandhi assured that the way forward for the 2024 polls will be discussed at a meeting after the Congress presidential election is over.
Lalu Yadav said, “We have to remove BJP and save the country. This is why we have to come together.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also called for unity of opposition parties to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party.
This was Nitish Kumar's first meeting with Sonia Gandhi since he severed ties with the BJP and joined hands with the RJD and the Congress to form the government in Bihar last month.
"We both held talks with Sonia Gandhi. We have to unite together and work for the country's progress. They have their party president elections after which she will speak," Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said after meeting with Congress chief.
"We are all like-minded when it comes to Opposition unity. We have discussed the way forward," Nitish Kumar said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi raised questions over the possibility of ‘Opposition unity’.
“Can CPM and Congress come together in Kerala? Congress in Kerala is telling CPM that they are BJP's A team in Kerala. Different parties have their own interests, the political conditions of every state are different... Even if they want to, they cannot unite all the parties,” Sushil Modi said.
“Can Nitish Kumar make Congress and Arvind Kejriwal sit together? Can Nitish Kumar put OP Chautala and Congress together?” Sushil Modi said following a meeting of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.
