Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on September 25 addressed the media after his UNGA visit in New York, and said India is perceived widely as the voice of global South. “No question that UNGA reflects the state of the world, which is particularly polarised at this moment. It also reveals in a way that India matters more, we're a bridge, a voice, a viewpoint, a channel,” the Union Minister said. “We're today perceived widely as voice of global South. There is crisis in world economy where cost of food, fuel, fertilizers, debt situation are deep anxieties. There is frustration that these issues aren't being heard. There isn't anybody at all but India voicing them,” he added. “It's not usual in General Assembly for Presidents, PMs or FMs of a country to refer to another country but many spoke for India on a number of occasions,” he further added.
