Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to renovate a 900-metre stretch of the lake zone-1 from Bidyut Marg to BDA City Centre to ensure that clean water flows along the recreation-cum-boating hub throughout the year.
The natural drainage channel no-10 along this particular stretch is known as lake zone-1. The revamp will include de-siltation, extraction of sludge, weeding, creating embankment with gabion wall (packing of stones) and creation of walkway,.
It will also pave the way for smooth flow of water (around 0.414 cubic metres per second) in dry (non-monsoon) season.
The renovation project is being taken up under Mukhyamantri Karma Tatpara Abhiyan (Mukta). “Gravel will be packed along the gabion wall so as to make it a structure which withstand stormwater during the rainy season. The top of the wall will also serve as walkway on both sides so that people visiting the BDA City Centre can take a stroll,” said Gautam Chandra Das, executive engineering, drainage division, BMC.
“Bio-fencing (use of bamboo and wooden structure) will be taken up from Bidyut Marg end. All-paver walkway previously laid on the floor at BDA City Centre will be replaced. The pond at the back of the lake will be repaired,” Das added.
BDA City Centre, earlier known as BDA Nicco Park, is spread over 25 acres.
