100 establishments in Kalwa E to get evacuation notices
Thane: The municipal Corporation is in the process of slapping evacuation notices to residential and commercial establishments in the Waghoba Nagar area of Kalwa East, officials informed on Friday.
The development comes following the Thursday incident where a few structures and the approach road in the locality situated along the slopes of the Parsik mountain ranges developed cracks as the ground below became unstable.
“We are in the process of serving evacuation notices to nearly 100 residents of the area to avoid any major mishap in case of a possible landslide. We will also write to the forest department that owns the land to clear the encroachments, and we have assured them adequate manpower if required,” informed S Thanekar, assistant municipal commissioner at Kalwa ward. In the meantime, authorities have started temporary repair work of the approach roads even as residents blamed the railway work of constructing a wall along the tracks to have lossened the soil and sought a permanent solution to avoid future mishaps.
The Railways said there was no connection to the incident with its work, and said remedy to the situation was within the ambit of the forest department and corporation.
