55-yr-old woman dies after water tank falls on her

Namakkal: A 55-year-old woman died after a newly constructed water tank collapsed and fell on her at Periya Kinaru near Rasipuram on Friday. The deceased has been identified as S Pappathi, of Periya Kinaru. She was a construction labourer.
The local body administration constructed the water tank for public use under the 100-day employment scheme. The tank was filled with water after it was constructed.
On Friday afternoon, Pappathi went to the tank to fill water in a bottle after having lunch with fellow workers.
“The tank suddenly collapsed and fell on her,” an officer from Ayilpatty police station said.
He said Pappathi, who sustained grave injuries, died on the spot. Fellow workers alerted police who came to the spot and sent the body to the government hospital in Rasipuram for postmortem.
A case was registered and further inquiry is on.
