Now, pvt, public entities can adopt govt schools for infra upgrade: CM
Panaji: The state government has decided to implement the Union government’s Vidyanjali scheme in Goa, and government schools in the state will now be open for adoption by banks, temples, registered societies, NGOs and individual professionals, chief minister Pramod Sawant said. Those adopting the school will be allowed to invest in upgradation of the school infrastructure, said Sawant.
“They will only provide aid to upgrade infrastructure, and the control of the school will continue with the state government,” Sawant said, and appealed to such public and private entities and individuals to come forward to help upgrade infrastructure in state-run schools.
The decision to open the Vidyanjali scheme is to provide further boost to the government’s efforts to invest in upgradation of infrastructure of government primary schools, the CM said.
He added that the government has already invested Rs 1.1 crore through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to repair government school buildings.
Explaining the Vidyanjali scheme, Sawant said, “The central government has opened the Vidyanjali portal to allow NGOs, young professionals, retired teachers or retired government officials, banks, temples or any other public or private institutions to adopt government schools for upgradation of their infrastructure”.
“Such bodies will help provide training and additional facilities to schools like laptop, computer labs,” he said. “Such entities should register themselves on the portal or can even contact the government primary school teacher. The school will not be given to someone who is running another school. It is only to provide support to the school, like, for instance, by a neighbourhood temple.”
