Mysuru: The
Dasara celebration committee will conduct two-day Makkala Dasara involving schoolchildren from September 29.
Over 1,000 students of class 7 to 10, selected from different hobli headquarters, will showcase their talent at Maharani’s Junior College premises. Thirty-one events, including cultural, dance, debate, pick-and-speak, fancy dress, quiz, will be conducted for children. They will also be playing desi games like lagori, bugari, chowkabara, kuntebille, hagga-jaggata, et al.
Fancy dress competitions are organised for specially abled children, while the children of mahauts and kavadis taking care of Dasara elephants will take part in various events of Makkala Dasara.
The department of public instruction has set up nine stalls at Jaganmohan Palace to showcase the achievements, schemes initiated by the state and the central governments for the welfare, empowerment, and promotion of education among schoolchildren. Exhibition of various scientific models and paintings made by students will also be displayed there.
The Dasara celebrations committee has organised a tour programme from September 26 till October 1 for 1,650 select students, who will be taken to tourist places in and around Mysuru in 33 KSRTC buses. They will be picked up from prominent hobli headquarters on designated days.
Iskcon and JSS are sponsoring mid-day meal for the touring children and those visiting Jaganmohan Palace.
Speaking to TOI, deputy director of public instruction Ramachandra Raje Urs, who is also Makkala Dasara special officer, said the sub-committee has estimated Rs 15 lakh for the events. Additional funds will be raised from sponsors, he added.
