Two held for stealing cars, items worth 21L seized
Thane: Kapurbawdi police have arrested a car thief and his accomplice for stealing four wheelers from different cities and selling them.
The accused identified as Parvez Iqbal Sayyed, 34, a resident of Hubli, would steal the cars and sell them at lower prices, the police said.
The cops have seized from him five engines of the cars that were scrapped, and six other cars that were sold, amounting to a total of Rs 21.1 lakh. They have also arrested Fiaz Haquem, 54, a scrap dealer from Kurla to whom he sold some of the stolen cars
Several cases of car thefts were reported in the area hence a special squad was formed, said Dr Vinay Rathod, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-5). “The team launched a manhunt based on technical inputs and CCTV footage from Thane, Kalyan, Satara, Kolhapur, and Hubli in Karnataka, that led us to a garage and we finally zeroed in on the main accused,” Rathod said.
