Odisha: Teachers in Nabarangpur sweep education office to protest official's 'misbehaviour'
They not only swept the whole office but also the chamber of the additional DEO as a mark of protest.
KORAPUT: A large number of teachers in Nabarangpur district carrying brooms swept the office of the district education officer (DEO) on Thursday in protest against the alleged misbehaviour shown by the additional DEO towards a headmaster.
The teachers, under the banner of district primary teachers association (DPTA), alleged that on September 8 during his visit to Bhendia High School under Chandahandi block, additional DEO Resham Lal Naik had asked the headmaster, Jagdish Gouda, to sweep a classroom claiming it was unclean. They not only swept the whole office but also the chamber of the additional DEO as a mark of protest.
DEO apologises to teachers for sweeping incident
On the direction of Naik, I swept the classroom and didn't feel bad as it is our duty to keep the school clean apart from teaching. However, the additional DEO took my photo while I was sweeping and made it viral on social media platforms following which I was mocked. My children felt offended by the photo on social media," said Gouda.
DEO (Nabarangpur) Pradeep Kumar Das expressed his displeasure over the whole incident. "It's an unfortunate incident and nothing was done intentionally. I, on behalf of the department, seek apology from the teachers," said Das.
