MANGALURU: Following requests from students, parents, and political leaders, the Dakshina Kannada district administration decided to declare Dasara holidays for primary and high schools from September 28 to October 16.
The decision was taken following a meeting chaired by deputy commissioner KV Rajendra in the presence of ZP CEO Kumar and DDPI K Sudhakar on Saturday.
On Friday, a circular from the state government stated that an additional four days of holiday would be reserved for Mangaluru taluk, while schools in other taluks would be closed for Dasara from October 3 to October 16.
The circular also stated that schools should compulsorily observe Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and to compensate for the additional four days of leave, the state government has directed the schools to conduct four days of full-day classes on Saturdays and two-full-day classes on Sundays.
However, this circular created a lot of confusion and there was pressure from the administration to make appropriate changes. A senior official said that a few school students staying in hostels in Mangaluru taluk limits had already left home for Dasara vacations.
The DC said that the Christian minority schools have decided to cut short the mid-term or Dasara holidays. The holidays will be reserved for Christmas.
