Online food delivering company, Zomato said that it will conduct physical verification of cloud kitchens operating more than 10 brands from a single location to check malpractices by operators.
The company gave this information in a blogpost. It said, while there is no exact science of the exact number of brands, we believe that even the most organized unit of this industry does not benefit from a kitchen with multiple brands operating conditions and also reduces consumer confidence.
Zomato said that recently the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has given permission to companies running cloud kitchens to operate multiple brands on a single license. However, Zomato believes that some companies running registered cloud kitchens are abusing this exemption given in the law and operating too many brands from a single kitchen. Because of this, there is no difference in the offering of their products and the customers also start getting confused.
The company further said that in view of the poor customer experience in this situation, it has been decided to conduct a physical examination of cloud kitchens running multiple brands. This work will be carried out in collaboration with the National Restaurant Association of India. Zomato said, if more than 10 food brands are being run from one place, then we are going to physically check that place.
