Brawl at AIMIM office after road rage
Thane: One person has been detained for allegedly attacking two persons inside the AIMIM party office in Mumbra over an alleged case of road rage.
According to preliminary probe, two persons riding a two-wheeler allegedly brushed a car at around 8.30pm in Mumbra. The incident triggered a verbal duel on the road.
Later, while one of the bikers was standing outside the AIMIM office, those travelling in the car started assaulting him. They also allegedly used rods in the attack.
A video showing the attack outside the office has gone viral on social media. One of the injured was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
A police official said the attack itself was not politically motivated. “Some of the local functionaries are trying to make the issue political which is not the case. We have suo-moto registered a case against the accused and taken action. The accused are not ready to file cross-complaints against each other,” said the officer, adding that they “are in process of taking statements and will accordingly decide what sections to add in the case.”
On the other hand, Saif Pathan, AIMIM functionary alleged, “This attack was planned and it is politically motivated. The accused targetted my friend. Had I been at the spot they would have killed me.”
A case has been registered with the Mumbra police under various IPC sections for rioting.
