Around 40,000 members of the railway network and 15 major railway companies will go on strike for 24 hours on October 8. The strike is scheduled during the Conservative conference, which will also see the Aslef union drivers walking out. Aslef drivers will also conduct a strike on October 5.
The reason behind the new strike is the long-standing dispute between the workers and the railway companies over working conditions and pay scale. A Network Rail spokesperson said that they had received a notification for another strike on October 8, which the RMT was carrying out in tandem with Aslef drivers. The network added that the two strikes planned for October would severely hurt passengers and asked commuters to step out during the strikes only if necessary. The spokesperson confirmed that a revised timetable would also be released a few days before the strike.
