GST (CGST) Commissionerate Ludhiana has arrested another accused in the Rs 100-crore GST fraud case.
The arrested businessman has links with two firms and was allegedly involved in fraudulent input tax credit (ITC) claims of about Rs 12 crore. The accused was produced before the magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody till October 4.
Sources in the CGST Commissionerate said, “During the course of investigation into the case involving Yashpal Mehta, Gurbax Lal and accomplices, a key accused identified as Ram alias Raman Chaggar was arrested on September 21. Raman Chaggar is related to Yashpal Mehta.
Earlier on August 12, a search was also conducted at Yashpal Mehta’s residential premises. At that time, he and his family had attacked GST officers after which an FIR was lodged against them.”
Sources said, “A search was conducted on September 20 at the residential premises of Raman Chaggar who is proprietor of RA Enterprises and partner of AR International and was repeatedly evading summons of the department. After being confronted with corroboratory evidence, the accused confessed that there was no movement of goods in RA Enterprises and AR International and these firms were created only to avail and pass on ITC fraudulently on the strength of bogus invoices in connivance with Yashpal Mehta. Based on evidences gathered and his statement, Raman was placed under arrest on September 21.”
