LUCKNOW: Greater Noida is all set to become the first Indian venue for the MotoGP, the premier motorcycle racing event. The chairperson of Dorna Sports, the Spanish company and commercial rights owner of the event, met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday and expressed his interest in holding the event 'Bharat Grand Prix' at Greater Noida's 5.125 km Buddh International Circuit, which hosted the Formula One Indian Grand Prix between 2011-2013.
The CM has assured him that all possible help will be provided to the company to organise this event successfully. Dorna Sports' chairperson Carmelo Ezpeleta met the CM and industries minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' on Wednesday to discuss the organisation of MotoGP in the state. He said that he was keen on organising the event in collaboration with the Central government and the UP government.
The CM immediately sought to know what kind of help was needed to organise the event. It was discussed that the tracks at Buddha International Circuit require a facelift and that assistance would also be required at the level of customs and security.
‘Event will give India a recognition’The CM promised that all possible assistance would be provided and has directed officials to get an update on the status of the venue and inform his office at the earliest. The MotoGP is the third most watched sporting event in the world, after the Olympics and FIFA World Cup. If the event goes through, the government said, there would be a huge increase in India’s GDP, employment generation for 30,000-50,000 people and an expansion in UP’s economic and tourism potential.
