Man, woman kill selves in Bharatpur

Bhubaneswar: A man and his live-in partner died by suicide in a Bharatpur slum here on Wednesday after consuming poison. Police suspect it to be a fallout of a family feud, according to preliminary investigation.
Police said the man, Somanath Sahu from Machhipada in Nayagarh district, was married and had a son. His wife was not staying with him.
He had been living with another woman, Sulochana Naik of Rasol in Dhenkanal district (who was also married to another person) for the past few months in Phuleswari slum.
“Both were living together apart from their spouses. The man had deserted his wife and child. Details regarding the woman is yet to be known,” said DCP Prateek Singh.
Police said the man and the woman had a heated exchange of words, which the neighbour overheard. “The man had come late at night and the woman perhaps was reluctant to open the door. Further investigation will help us know what exactly prompted them to end their lives,” a police officer said.
As revealed to police by Somnath’s wife, she and her mother-in-law were planning to come to Somanth to persuade him to return. tnn
