The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to actor Armaan Kohli in a case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) last year. The court asked Kohli to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh along with sureties and said that he should not indulge in similar activities. It clarified that the prosecution can approach for cancellation of Kohli’s bail if he flouted any of the conditions. The court also directed Kohli to appear before the NCB once a month.
A single-judge bench of Justice Nitin W Sambre passed the order on Kohli’s fresh bail plea after the agency filed its chargesheet on February 25 this year.
In December last year, during the pre-chargesheet stage, the court had refused bail to Kohli, stating that the probe was still on and prima facie, there was enough material to infer the applicant’s involvement in serious offence.
Kohli was arrested on August 28 last year for various offences punishable under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The NCB had claimed that in July last year, it had seized 25 gm of mephedrone from a man, and in follow-up action, searched Kohli’s residence where it seized 1.2 gm of cocaine. Kohli was arrested along with five others, including alleged peddlers. The NCB had said it seized Kohli’s phone and claimed to have found incriminating evidence in the form of photographs and chats regarding an international drug cartel.
