Ahmedabad: A large sinkhole appeared near Ashokvatika Society on Bopal-Ambli road on Monday. Last week, the civic body’s garbage compactor truck got stuck in a cave-in near Juhapura and two days later, another sinkhole was reported on the same road on Friday.
Congress councillors in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) alleged that the frequency at which potholes have been appearing on the roads only goes on to show that the civic body had failed miserably in carrying out proper road repairs.
“The city has started to resemble a large pothole itself due to the AMC’s inaction. Every day new potholes appear in various parts of the city. The civic body had claimed that it will complete road repairs by September 20. It has not only failed in doing so but it has also failed in attending to road-related complaints,” said Shehzad Pathan, the leader of opposition in the AMC and Congress councillor from Danilimda.
Sources in the AMC said that since July, 95 potholes have been reported from across the city. Of these, 70 were reported in July. Pathan said that the civic body must complete road repairs before Navratri and Eid-e-Milad festivals.
