Bhubaneswar: Director general of police Sunil Kumar Bansal on Monday asked the newly-recruited young deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to maintain probity in their conduct and show zero tolerance to corruption.
Speaking at a two-day training programme organised by the Odisha vigilance directorate for the directly recruited DSPs on anti-corruption laws, Bansal said though the Indian police is rated highly efficient, the public perception still remains poor on issues of corruption.
“In 1857, after the first war of Independence, a review conducted by a British Commission identified inefficiency, corruption and high-handedness as the main problems afflicting the Indian police. This led to the enactment of the Police Act, 1861,” Bansal said.
The top cop lauded the efforts of the vigilance organization. “The DSPs should utilize the vigilance’s training module to gather tools for enhancing transparency and preventive vigilance,” Bansal said.
Vigilance director Yashwant Jethwa highlighted the importance of transparency and good governance as a part of the government’s 5T (transparency, teamwork, technology, time-frame and transformation) framework.
The training module will provide inputs on corruption laws, role of the sub-divisional police officers in preventive vigilance, Odisha Lokayukta Act, 2014, vigilance case laws and departmental proceedings under the prevention of corruption Act, Jethwa said.
The Odisha vigilance directorate registered 92 disproportionate asset cases in 2021, the highest in the country..
