
India Weather Live Updates: Two men were killed and three other people injured after lightning struck them in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday evening in Khajuri village under Pratappur police station limits, they said. The deceased, identified as Nandlal Paikra (27) and Sanjay Yadav (25), natives of nearby Toni village, were returning home from Pratappur market when heavy rainfall started, a police official said. Widespread downpour and thunderstorm are expected across coastal Odisha till Wednesday, under the influence of a low pressure area formed over Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall is also predicted over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Tuesday.
The IMD has predicted generally cloudy sky with the possibility of very light rain in New Delhi on Tuesday. Meanwhile, monsoon is likely to withdraw from Delhi-NCR by the end of the month as against the usual date of September 24-25.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and generally cloudy sky in the national capital over the next five days. Parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, leading to waterlogged roads and traffic jams in several areas.
While the maximum temperature settled at 34.7 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity at 5.30 pm was recorded at 73 per cent, according to data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather office has forecast the minimum and maximum temperatures on Wednesday settling at 24 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, respectively. (PTI)

Q Does the UAE, which has a sizable number of Indian expats in its labour force, sees greater participation of qualified Indians in combating global warming?
Indian experts are already actively participating in combating climate change in the UAE. They have played an integral role in our international climate negotiations as well as in developing the National Climate Change Plan of the UAE 2017-2050, the National Climate Change Adaptation Program, and other strategic documents. People with qualifications in a wide variety of fields can make meaningful contributions to our fight against climate change.
"Loss and damage" due to climate change will be a major topic for discussion at the 27th Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC in Egypt in November, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Tuesday.
Addressing an event organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry here, he said the maximum impact of the climate crisis is being borne by the countries which have no role in global warming.
"Loss and damage will be a major topic for discussion at COP27 at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt in November this year," he said. The social and financial impacts of climate change that cannot be avoided are referred to as 'loss and damage'. (PTI)
Light to moderate showers are expected for the next four-five days in some areas of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota and Udaipur divisions of east Rajasthan, Meteorological Department said here on Tuesday. However, the monsoon has receded from some parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions today, it said.
According to MeT office, another low pressure area remains over the Bay of Bengal and Odisha coast, which is very likely to move in a west-northwest direction towards Odisha and North Chhattisgarh in the next 48 hours.
Under the influence of this system, there is a strong possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder in some parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota and Udaipur divisions of East Rajasthan for the next four-five days, it said. (PTI)
Normal life was disrupted in many parts of Odisha on Tuesday by incessant rains induced by a low pressure and the weatherman has forecast more downpour in the next 24 hours.
The low pressure area is active in northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km, the IMD said.
The low pressure has activated the monsoon and Odisha as a whole has received an average rainfall of 22.7 mm against the normal of 6.9 mm, which is 228 per cent excess, the Regional Meteorological Centre said. (PTI)
The southwest monsoon Tuesday withdrew from parts of southwest Rajasthan and Kutch, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.


Since 2020, the normal date considered for the start of the monsoon withdrawal is September 17. It is for the first time since 2016 when the monsoon has withdrawn in the third week of September (see box), the IMD added. Read More.

The Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Kutch today, according to IMD.
The IMD has predicted fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm lightening very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during 20th-24th September; over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 20th September.
Heavy rain lashed parts of Odisha on Monday as a cyclonic circulation that had formed over Bay of Bengal intensified into a low-pressure area, the Met office said.
The weather system, which took shape over the northwest Bay of Bengal in the morning, is likely to intensify further into a well-marked low-pressure area over the next 24 hours while moving towards the Odisha coast, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said. (Read More)
The minimum temperature in Delhi on Tuesday settled at 24.6 degrees Celsius and the weather office has forecast cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle later in the day.
The relative humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 93 per cent, as per data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). From 8:30 am on Monday to 8:30 am on Tuesday, the city received 6.5 mm of rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light rain later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius.
