DALTONGANJ: After reclaiming Burha Pahar, once a hotbed of Maoists, security forces camping in the area to safeguard the strategic location, are faced with electricity and water woes.
Security forces have set up security camps atop the mountain located on Jharkhand-Chattisgarh border after flushing out Maoists through “Operation Octopus”.
On Sunday, director general of police (DGP) Neeraj Kumar Sinha along with top officials of the state police visited the area to boost the morale of the jawans deployed there and also interacted with the local villagers to build their confidence.
Sources said electricity has not reached Burha Pahar as it was under the rebels. Additional director general of police (operations) Sanjay Anand Lathkar said, “We have installed a 10kv generator set atop the Pahar. It was not easy to transport such heavy equipment to high altitude due to the tough topography. But we did it.” He added, “We will send a proposal to the government to install solar panels in the area.”
Garhwa superintendent of police (SP) Anjani Kumar Jha said, “The generator was dismantled before being transported to the mountain top and was then assembled again.”
“The area lacks drinking water facility, including hand pumps. There is only a small stream to meet the basic needs of the personnel. We will send a proposal to the government to build a water harvesting structure on the top of Burha Pahar,” ADGP Lathkar added
