No objection to UP survey of madrassas, say Jamiat & Darul

No objection to UP survey of madrassas, say Jamiat & Darul
DEOBAND: Chairing a conference of principals and managers of prominent madrassas, president of Deoband-based Islamic organisation, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Maulana Arshad Madani, called upon participants to “cooperate with officials during the government survey of madrassas.”
“There is nothing hidden... Doors of madrassas are always open for everyone. We’ve been asking madrassa directors to support the government’s decision,” he said.
Madani further added, “We don’t need any government aid for our religion, mosques and madrassas, but if we build a school or a college, we may take financial help.”
Darul Uloom, one of the largest Islamic seminaries in the country based in Deoband, also said on Sunday it has “no objection to the UP government’s survey of unrecognised madrassas in the state”.
Darul Uloom had recently called upon madrassa organisers and officials along with clerics to assemble in Deoband for a conference to decide the next course of action on the survey.
Abul Qasim Nomani, Darul vice-chancellor, said, “We are not opposed to the survey. A detailed manifesto has been issued for madrassas in this regard.” The manifesto, with key directives for madrassa officials, stated: “Provide correct information to the survey team so that there is no problem later on. If there is any deficiency in arrangements as per the rules, then try to remove the deficiency at the earliest. Also, maintain transparency in the financial system and get accounts audited annually.”
