Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh has said that the Hurriyat Conference, a separatist organisation in Jammu and Kashmir, is over, but efforts are being made to keep it alive from Pakistan. He said that terrorism in the region is now on crutches.
The DGP said that most of the madrassas are doing good work, but strict vigil is being kept on such institutions whose students have become terrorists in the past.
"The Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir is over," the police chief told reporters on the sidelines of a cricket tournament organised by the police for local youth in Kishtwar district. To keep it alive, its branch has been opened in Pakistan and they are calling for 'bandh' from there."
Singh said the people had a slap in the face by rejecting the 'bandh' call, which is evident from the fact that on August 5 (the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories) and on 15 August there was no strike.
