MYSURU: After a two-year lull forced by the Covid pandemic, this year’s edition of Mysuru Dasara will regain its glory and splendor with 43 tableaux from Karnataka government departments and districts participating in the procession on the concluding day of October 5.
The Mysuru district tableau will highlight all the important landmarks of the district and the native products: The palace, Chamundi Hills, Mahishasura statue, Nanjangud banana (which is facing extinction), Mysuru peta and Mysore betel leaf.
Deputy commissioner Bagadi Gautham, who is also Dasara special officer, said tableaux will reflect cultural heritage or some other significant aspect of the participating district.
In a big relief to students from Mysuru district, Dasara holidays will start for schools on the first day of Dasara (September 26) and conclude on October 9. According to an official order, schools are directed to observe Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Valmiki Jayanti on October 9.
Sources said schools have been given permission to customize Dasara holidays and declare closure of schools from October 3 to 16 after taking permission from the respective block education officers. Officials said district-level officials have been mandated to take a final decision on Dasara holidays.
