After hiatus, Ludhiana preps for grand Dussehra
LUDHIANA: With Dussehra round the corner, the members of various Ram Leela and Dussehra committees are gearing up for grand celebrations after a gap of almost two years, where they will be able to enjoy without much restrictions. The fair at Daresi Ground, where Dussehra has been celebrated for decades now, will be organised at the last day to mark Dussehra celebrations. Ram Leela groups are also being contacted for various performances.
Dinesh Marwaha of Sri Ram Leela Dussehra Committee, Daresi said, “After a gap of almost two-three years, we have decided to show Ramayana at big LED screen this time in Daresi ground, every evening from September 26 till October 5. For the last two years, there were many restrictions due to Covid, but now we will organise it.” He said the fair has already kicked off and to avoid any untoward incident, a special committee has been formed for the daily checking of all the rides in the morning.
100 feet tall Ravana effigy at Daresi Ground
The artists from Uttar Pradesh, who have especially come for preparing the effigies of Ravana, Meghnada and Kumbhakarna, are really busy these days as they have to complete the orders. The highest effigy of Ravan at Daresi ground would be a 100 feet high.
Anil Bassi of Ram Leela and Dussehra committee, Sarabha Nagar said, “We will be having a big blast as we were not doing it at a grand level. A special group will come from Amethi for Ram Leela.This time, the Ravana effigy will be 60 feet high while other two effigies will be 55 feet, each.”
Brij Mohan Kalia of Rajguru Nagar’s Dussehra committee shared that they would organise Dussehra celebrations in the market of the colony, like they have been doing for last two years. He said there would be a 10-day-long fair and Ram Leela for the devotees to come and enjoy with their family members.
