Rescue crews responded to the 1800 block of 12th Street Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, for a report of a house fire.

A firefighter sustained minor injuries during a house fire early Monday.

The fire is one of two over the past few days currently under investigation by the Port Huron Fire Department.

Rescue crews responded to a report of a house fire in the 1800 block of 12th Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames showing on the second level, Port Huron Fire Capt. Chris Shattuck said.

Two occupants safely exited the home, as well as multiple dogs. Shattuck said one occupant was transported to McLaren Port Huron for minor smoke inhalation and burns and was released.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury to his ankle and was also transported to McLaren. Shattuck said he was unsure of the status of that firefighter.

The home sustained major fire damage on the second floor and minor smoke and water damage on the first floor, Shattuck said.

Rescue crews also responded to a report of a house fire in the 1400 block of Seventh Street shortly after 10:15 p.m. Friday.

Shattuck said firefighters found heavy flames on the roof and two sides of the home upon arrival.

One occupant safely exited the home. There were no injuries.

Shattuck said the home sustained heavy fire damage to the second level and the exterior, as well as water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.

Marysville, Port Huron Township and Fort Gratiot fire departments also assisted at the scene of both fires, as well as Tri-Hospital EMS.
