SAMBALPUR: Altered names of five mosques in Sambalpur city on a popular online mapping platform triggered unrest among the minority community with the police initiating a probe to nab whoever responsible.
Sambalpur superintendent of police B Gangadhar said, "The names of the mosques, which had been changed on the online platform, have been rectified. Some miscreants have done this with intent to cause mischief. An inquiry has been launched to find the person/s responsible for this incident."
Atif Alam said the edited names were first noticed by a teenage boy who later informed the others. "We then went to the SP's office late on Saturday evening to air our grievances," he said.
Sources said hundreds of people had gathered in front of the SP's office and also submitted a written complaint. "The SP met our delegation and assured that police would take immediate steps to nab the miscreants who committed such a heinous crime," said Alam.
