Sudanese woman held with gold worth Rs 96 lakh at Kolkata airport

KOLKATA: A Sudanese woman was arrested at Kolkata airport with unaccounted gold worth over Rs 96 lakhs concealed in her innerwear and private parts. Customs officials opined this as the biggest gold haul from a single passenger at Kolkata airport in recent time.
She had hidden two pouches of powdered gold insider her underwear and two gold paste capsules in her anal cavity. The total weight of the recovered gold was 1,930 grams valued at Rs 96,12,446.
On Saturday, Lamees Abdelrazeg Sharif Abubaker reached Kolkata in an Emirates flight from Dubai around 7.15pm. Customs officials checked her passport and documents before allowing her to cross the green channel.
However, officers of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Kolkata Customs suspected abnormality in the way she was walking. They took her through a rigorous frisking procedure when she confessed of carrying the gold illegally.
