4-phase panchayat polls likely in Hry

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has promised to complete the reservation-related formalities for panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) elections by September 22. Based on suggestions received from the deputy commissioners, the state election commission (SEC) is exploring the possibility of conducting the elections in four phases.
The government is expected to advise the commission to conduct the polls after the paddy procurement season. Asked why the DCs have asked for four-phased elections, a state official claimed that they had cited shortage of staff. Earlier, SEC wrote to the state government for extending the deadline to November 30.
These elections are due since February 2021. The polls were delayed since the issue of reservation for BC (A) category was pending in courts.
