GURUGRAM: MCG has decided to clear the pending dues of all upkeep staff - including sanitation and horticulture workers, and pump operators - in the eight private developer colonies recently taken over by the civic body.
Some councillors raised the issue at the MCG's House meeting on Thursday, claiming that the maintenance staff in many of these colonies were contemplating embarking on an indefinite strike over their pending dues.
"In the eight colonies, the existing upkeep staff -- employed through private agencies by the respective developers or RWAs -- has been retained. All their pending dues will be cleared," MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja said.
The MCG commissioner has also called a meeting of senior officials and councillors on Monday to take up the issues of the private colonies recently taken over by the civic body.
According to some councillors, these MCG maintenance workers have threatened to go on an indefinite strike which would cause inconvenience to residents.
"MCG has already decided to retain these upkeep staff in these private developer colonies so as to ensure a smooth transition. Two months have passed since the takeover of these colonies but these workers are still waiting for their dues," said Kuldeep Yadav, councillor of ward number 29. "It's high time the MCG cleared their dues."
In Ardee City, the RWA pays for 30 sanitation workers and other upkeep staff deployed in the colony. "Each worker is given Rs 12,000 per month. Since the MCG has not paid the dues to the workers yet, the RWA has diverted funds meant for the security of the colony towards it," said Chaitali Mandhotra, a member of Ardee City RWA.
"If MCG clears their payment, we will be better equipped to pay for the security. MCG should clarify whether they will pay for the maintenance staff," she added.
