Jaipur: Huge enthusiasm for donating blood was seen at the camps organised across the state as part of the national blood donation drive held on Saturday.
An elderly, 96-year-old Takhatmal Kothari reached one of the camps in the city and showed his willingness to donate blood. Since, blood donation is allowed till 60 years of age, the camps officials counsel him that he cannot donate it. “Why can’t I donate blood, I am fully fit and have no diseases,” he asked them. Despite a lot of counselling, the camp officials pricked his finger and as a symbolic blood donation, his two drops of blood were considered as donated for elderly’s respect towards blood donation.
In the state, 213 blood donation camps were organized, out of those 77 camps were organized in Jaipur in a single day by Jaipur’s Akhil Bharatiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad (ABTYP) with Centre’s and state’s health department’s support.
In the country, 6,138 camps were organized by the organization. “We have registered 1.94 lakh donors across the country for donating blood in a single day. In Jaipur, 5050 people donated blood, which is a big achievement, and it shows the respect of blood donations people have in them for saving life of others. In Jaipur, 77 camps were organized,” said Hitesh Bhandia, chief convenor of national mega blood donation drive, who belongs to Jaipur.
Bhandia said that they are on the way of setting a new record of blood donations done in a single day. “The counting of blood donation done across the country is still in progress. The exact number of blood donations done in a single day is expected to come on Sunday,” he said.
Each camp is registered on online portal, e-Raktkosh. The blood banks have to provide the data of blood units collected on e-Raktkosh.
