MANDYA: A prematurely born one-day-old baby boy has miraculously survived despite being thrown into a 10ft-deep defunct well in Pandavapura town of
Karnataka’s Mandya district. He is recuperating at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences and is said to be out of danger. Residents of Chandra village rescued the newborn from the well on Friday after hearing his cries. After first aid at a local centre, the infant was immediately shifted to MIMS. Surprisingly, the baby had no physical injuries except a wound on his back.
“The child has minor injuries. Since the baby was born prematurely, its weight was only 1.5kg. It is being treated in the NICU,” said DHO Dr Dhananjaya.
District minister K Gopalaiah visited MIMS on Saturday and inquired about the newborn’s health, besides directing authorities to provide the best care.
