KANPUR: Three labourers, allegedly hired for work at an under-construction house, died on Sunday in Barra area after inhaling toxic fumes in a septic tank. The incident took place in the afternoon hours at the under-construction house of Kushal Gupta located in Malviya Nagar of Barra.
The deceased labourers have been identified as Amit Kumar (25), a resident of Dhamna village, Ankit Pal (22), a resident of Bidhnoo's Kathogar village and Shiva Tiwari (25), a resident of Dharhara village, of the district.
On coming to know about the incident, the family members of the deceased arrived at the spot and created ruckus and accused the landlord of murder.
On information, ACP Govind Nagar Vikas Pandey rushed to the spot and pacified the angry family members.
Kushal Gupta, a resident of Jalaun's Kalpi, is getting a house constructed in Malviya Nagar area of Barra.
In the absence of a sewer line in the area, he got a septic tank built in the house.
Under the supervision of a contractor Bal Govind, Amit Kumar, Ankit Pal and Shiva Tiwari, were working in the house.
On Sunday, the three laborers got down to remove the shuttering in the septic tank of the house.
As soon as they went inside the septic tank, all the three labourers fell unconscious after inhaling poisonous gas. When the contractor Bal Govind also went inside to rescue the three, he too started having breathing problems.
On raising the alarm, the locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police control room.
The police, with the help of locals, pulled everyone out and took them to a private hospital. The doctors however declared Shiva dead. When the condition of Ankit and Amit became critical, they were referred to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital, where they too died during the treatment. The family members of the deceased, who reached on the information of the accident, created a massive ruckus and held the landlord responsible for the deaths.
On being informed ACP Govind Nagar Vikas Pandey reached the spot along with the force and pacified the agitating family members of the deceased. ACP said that three labourers have died due to inhalation of poisonous gas after landing in the septic tank built in an under-construction house.
"Action will be taken after registering an FIR on the basis of a complaint from the family members of the deceased," said ACP further.
