MYSURU: Posing as delivery boys with a box in their hand, a group of youths on Saturday robbed a homemaker in Nanjangud of her jewels. The robbers had covered homemaker Dakshayini’s hands, legs and mouth with tape. Superintendent of Police R Chethan says gold jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh was taken away by the gang. Exactly how many were in the gang is not known. Police teams have been formed to crack the case.
Nanjangud rural police said the incident happened between 8.30am and 9am soon after Dakshayini’s husband Shambhuswamy, a high school teacher, and their child left home to work and school respectively. The homemaker was alone when the group came to her house in Ramaswamy Layout.
She told police that a group of men with a parcel in their hand came to her house around 8.45am on Saturday and rang the doorbell. “Soon after I opened the door, they forcibly entered the house and then threatened me to part with all the jewellery I was wearing. When I tried to raise an alarm, they closed my mouth with tape and tied my hands and legs. Then they searched the house for a few minutes and decamped with gold valuables.”
Dakshayini was bleeding from her nose as the tape was tightly pasted, covering her mouth and nose. The complainant said that soon after the gang left, she came crawling near the main door and yelled for help.
A neighbour came to her help, police said. Sources claimed there were the gang had three youths conversing in Kannada and Tamil. Nearly 200 grams of gold valuables including bangles, chains, earrings, and finger rings were robbed.
