MYSURU: Engineers were pulled up for failing to bring pressure to bear on contractors who awarded tenders for various construction projects at a meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) chaired by Mysuru district in-charge minister ST Somashekhar in the city on Saturday.
Officials in the public works department and in the zilla panchayat engineering wing, were among those who were taken to task for failing to ensure progress in various projects, and for the poor quality of work. Somashekhar expressed discontent with the failure of the officials to visit work sites to take stock of the work done by the contractors.
Expressing his concern over the bad state of the roads in HD Kote, Saragur and other taluks of Mysuru, not to mention the loss of houses and other property, the minister said that the local officials were duty-bound to bring these problems to the attention of the district administration, and the elected representatives.
Somashekhar called on the officials to visit flood-hit areas, and ascertain the extent of damage prior to disbursing compensation to the victims. The minister made this observation on the back of complaints of counterfeit documents being submitted by a few to seek compensation from the government.
MLAs L Nagendra, GT Devegowda, K Mahadev and Anil Chikkamadu, MLC CN Manjegowda, Mysuru deputy commissioner Bagadi Gautham, ZP chief executive officer BR Poornima, Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Laxmikanth Reddy were among those in attendance at the meeting.
