Many more MLAs will be arrested: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party came out in support of its MLA Amanatullah Khan a day after he was arrested by Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch, alleging that all this was part of a ‘witch hunt’ against the party and its functionaries.
Khan was arrested on Friday allegedly for irregularities, both in finance and in appointments, in the management of Delhi Waqf Board.
Chief minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi on Saturday, “First they arrested Satyendra Jain. They are unable to present any evidence even after being repeatedly asked by the court to do so. Then they raided Manish's house, but found nothing. Now Amanatullah has been arrested and many more MLAs will be arrested. It seems they are suffering a lot in Gujarat.”
The party’s chief spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said at a press conference that lies were being spread to malign AAP. He claimed ACB raided both the houses of Khan and found no cash, arms, gold or benami property. He said that investigating agencies hadn’t been able to find any evidence either against Jain or Sisodia after raiding their homes.
Bharadwaj said that despite ACB now deciding to act against Khan, its sleuths hadn’t “found anything in his possession that is illegal”. He said, “Since yesterday, the central government has been misleading people by saying that several items had been recovered from his residences.”
He said that two FIRs had been filed against two people and a person named Hamid Ali Khan had been booked under the Arms Act, while another FIR had been registered against a person named Hamid Imam Siddique under the same law. “Is it possible under criminal law to associate the recovery of arms from one person's house with another person?” asked Bharadwaj. “If a person is not involved in any business, how can he be a business partner in some business?”
The AAP spokesperson maintained Khan did not have any businesses and yet the alleged offenders were being labelled his business partners. “Going beyond the current accusations, if firearms are recovered from the house of a business partner, can that criminal act be associated with other business partners?” he argued.
In response, Harish Khurana, spokesperson of the Delhi unit of BJP, said it was regrettable that AAP spokespersons, who till now defended colleagues accused of corruption, were today defending Amanatullah Khan, who is accused of possessing illegal weapons. “The people of Delhi want to know why the MLA had illegal weapons in his house,” Khurana said.
