Youths strive to make Coimbatore garbage-free

COIMBATORE: Youths from educational institutions in the city took part in Indian Swachhata League, a national-level competition aimed at involving youths in cleanliness drives and sensitization activities, on Saturday.
They participated in awareness rallies, human chain, flash mob and plogging across the city, including Valankulam and Race Course. The events, on the theme "Youth vs Garbage", were conducted by the city corporation.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and corporation commissioner M Prathap flagged off a cleanliness awareness rally on VOC ground.
An official said photos and videos of events will be uploaded for the central team to check and select the winners. A total of 10 cities will be selected and recognised at a national-level event scheduled in October.
Arjuna awardee G E Sridharan and NSS programme officer Gnanasekar, who were appointed by the corporation as 'cleanliness ambassadors', also took part in the awareness activities. TNN
