Thane: A CSMT-Thane air-conditioned (AC) local with 50 passengers reached the Kalwa car shed after its doors allegedly jammed on Friday night. Though the train guard claimed that the doors opened at Thane, the commuters had a different tale to tell on social media. The Central Railway (CR) has initiated an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause.

Officials said prima facie it’s the guard’s fault, who might have pressed the 'open' button before the train came to a halt. In such a situation, the doors don’t open, an officer explained. In the second week of July, the doors of a CSMT-bound AC local didn’t open at Dadar after the guard pressed the button in haste.

Another official said, “When the train stopped outside the Kalwa car shed, the passengers somehow managed to open the door and alighted.”

The CR spokesperson said they are checking the CCTV footage for better clarity before taking action in the matter.

One of the passengers, Omkar Mankame, tweeted at 11.57 pm on Friday allegedly from the train, “The doors of 10:20 Thane AC local didn’t open. We are stuck in the train, which was directly sent to the car shed. Need action and solution.” However, Mankame didn't answer this reporter’s phone call, but other sources confirmed the situation.

A senior CR official said another train operation session will be soon held for the guards to prevent any future incidents.
