Kolkata: Woman ‘jumps to death’ from 13th floor

KOLKATA: A 37-year-old woman residing at a condominium in Tangra died allegedly by suicide by jumping from the 13th floor of a 20-storey building around 2pm on Friday.
Police said the homemaker — Babita Kanoria — was rushed to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead. The reason behind her taking the extreme step was still not clear, police said. No suicide note has been found. An unnatural death case has been registered at Tangra police station.
Police sources said they would speak to the family members in this regard. “We will also check CCTV footages for leads,” said an officer from the Tangra police station.
According to National Crime Records Bureau, among those who ended their lives last year, 1,998 were homemakers.
