Cong mulls 2nd yatra from Guj to Arunachal in ’23
Guwahati: Depending on the outcome of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Congress will embark on another long march from Porbandar in Gujarat to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh in 2023.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who was in Guwahati on Friday, announced that the party will also take out the Assam leg of Bharat Jodo in November this year from Sadiya to Dhubri covering a distance of 800km. “The Bharat Jodo Yatra has nothing to do with state elections of Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka or the Lok Sabha election of 2024. This yatra is tapasya (penance) of Rahul Gandhi,” Ramesh said.
Saying the ongoing yatra covered 163km, Ramesh said it will infuse a new lease of life in Congress and rejuvenate the party organisation. “India is being divided. There is glaring economic inequality with food items being taxed under GST, the middle class is under pressure and there is growing unemployment. There is social polarisation and divisive ideology that encourages political centralisation,” he said.
