Two youths held under Pocso Act
Coimbatore: The rural police have arrested two youths in separate cases for kidnapping and raping two minor girls.
In the first case, the Sirumugai police arrested a 19-year-old labourer on Thursday for marrying and impregnating a Plus One student. He kidnapped the 17-year-old girl when she was alone in her residence on February 14 and married her in a temple on the same day, police said. She stayed with him in his house, where he raped her several times. She was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on September 14 after suffering a miscarriage and doctors, who came to know that she was a minor, informed police.
Police received complaint from the mother of the girl and arrested the youth under sections 366 of the Indian Penal Code, 5 (l) (j) (ii) read with 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Section 9 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. He was remanded in judicial custody.
In the second incident, the Negamam police on Thursday arrested 21-year-old M Paramasivam of Malappuram in Kerala for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl.
The youth had befriended the girl on a dating app, police said. He promised to marry her and kidnapped her on September 3. He took her to his home in Kerala, married her in a temple on September 8 and raped her several times.
A police team brought her back to Coimbatore on Thursday and reunited her with her parents. The youth was booked under sections 343, 366 of the Indian Penal Code, 5 (l) read with 6 of the Pocso Act and 9 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. He was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday evening.
