THANE: The Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) recently awarded a compensation of Rs 19.68 lakh to the kin of a 24-year-old cook following his death in a 2019 road accident.
The claimants which include the deceased’s wife, parents, and two kids, in their petition mentioned that the deceased was the sole breadwinner of their family and sought the compensation. Kin of deceased, Anil Vishe, mentioned that he worked as a cook at a hotel in Murbad and earned a salary of Rs 21,000 per month.
The lawyer said, on July 19,2019 , he was returning home with his friend as a pillion on a motorcycle near Kalyan. When they came near a flyover a speeding tempo dashed them post which both fell and suffered injuries. Vishe died while being treated at a hospital in Kalyan. The rider also died in the same accident. Subsequently, a case was registered against the tempo driver.
The family members told the tribunal that they were completely depended on the deceased and have sought compensation from the owner of the tempo and the insurer.
MACT member HM Bhosale directed the insurance company as well as owner of the tempo to jointly pay the sum of Rs 19 lakh to the kin of the deceased. — Nishikant Karlikar
