PUNE: The Hadapsar-Mundhwa ward office has issued a challan for Rs1lakh to a construction company for releasing drainage water on Mundhwa Road.
The challan was issued on September 13 following which the construction company Golden Bell, a subsidiary of Panchsil Realty, paid the amount in full by cheque, said officials.
Prasad Katkar, assistant municipal commissioner, Hadapsar ward office, said, "Ex-corporators and the MLA from the area reached out to me to investigate the matter as many residents of Tadigutta Chowk had complained about water entering their homes. Several ladies from low-income households also visited the ward office to complain about the issue. Upon investigation, we found that Golden Bell construction company was pumping 25 hp of drainage water along with stormwater on the road, which was flowing into nearby houses."
He added, "The company was issued a challan for creating nuisance under Chapter 14 Section 3 (A) and 4, and Section 376 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949."
Deputy sanitary inspector Navnath Shelar said, "There should be separate lines for drainage and stormwater. The construction company had combined the two lines. It has submitted a cheque to the PMC in full and have stopped the pumping of drainage water on the road."
Atul Chordia, chairman, Panchshil Realty, said, " We have applied for dewatering permission for which the PMC issued a challan for Rs1,00,000, which we paid."
